First off, many thanks to all of you who came out to see us this past weekend at Annie's Social Club and at the Riptide. Both shows were fun as could be. Thanks to Dave Gleason and Ride The Blinds for complementing our music so well at Annie's.

And now here's a real treat for you. One of the featured songs I do with the Drifters is "Woman (Sensuous Woman)". Written by Gary Paxton, our version is based on Johnny Bush's 1973 recording of the tune. But today on youtube I found a vid of Don Gibson singing it on Porter Wagoner's TV show back in the day. Enjoy!

We in the Drifters have been enjoying this here newfangled youtube thing immensely, here of late. Every time we get together to practice, it comes up. "Watch anything cool on youtube this week fellas?" As they say in Wisconsin, you betcha!

I never, ever thought I would get to see the late Phil Baugh play his signature hit, "Country Guitar", in which he mimics every famous country guitar picker of note, circa 1963. Then one day, voila! Dave Stuckey, of the Dave & Deke Combo and Dave Stuckey & The Rhythm Gang, goes and uploads it. Git-tar nerds, prepare to marvel:

Hey Folks, the Plain High Drifters are back and giggin' again. We'll be playing a lot of new songs as well as the older material with some fresh talent. Our new line up is as follows:

Smelley Kelley - vocals
Les James - drums / vocals
Tom Armstrong - bass / vocals
Dave Janusko - guitar
Scotty Hay - pedal steel / guitar

Mike, Corey, and Wil are all giggin' strong with their own projects - check 'em out over in links column, all good stuff. Once a drifter, always a drifter - you'll be likely to see their new bands playing with the Drifters from time to time.

Our old website got snatched up so we will be here at www.plainhighdrifters.net from now on. We're going to try this Blog format vs. a traditional website and spare you all from Myspace. Plus we'll be able to post other things not necessarily related directly to PHD's activity. Here's some pics from our first gig at Lester's bar The Riptide over on Taraval St. We're thinking about replacing our Parkside Sunday BBQ's with a Riptide afternoon show, we'll keep you posted. I for one am determined to bring back the montly BBQ - that was my personal favorite part of this band. Looking forward to seeing you all at the next gig.
